House. C16 or earlier hall house with E crosswing inserted floor
and alterations early C17, large W wing of late C19 replacing
old jettied and gabled service wing. Timber frame roughcast with
steep old red tile roofs. W part of roughcast brickwork with
matching roofs. One and a half storeys hall range with 2-storeys
parlour crosswing at E and large 2-storeys later block at W.
Faces N with entrance now at W. E wing jettied with casement
window to 1st floor, early C17 mullioned and transomed ovolo-
moulded rectangular bay window below jetty with added C18
bracketed cornice, external projecting E-side red brick chimney
with 2 diagonal shafts (top part rebuilt), and one-bay C19 gabled
rear extension. Lower hall range has large overhanging gabled
dormer with 3-light leaded lattice casement, and rectangular bay
window below. Square C17 gabled former stair-turret at rear
overlapping rear of E wing. 2 windows to gabled W wing rebuilt
beyond central chimney at W end of hall. Interior has chamfered
and stopped axial beam and joists of C17 floor inserted in hall
with early C18 bracketed moulded cornice on 3 sides, heavy flat-
laid joists in 2-bay E crosswing (possibly jettied to rear
originally), curved tension braces on upper floor of E wing,
clasped-purlin roofs with wind-braces, and unusual balustrade to
upper landing in W part.
