House. 1917 (plaque on S gable) by F C Eden for John Howard
Carter of The Bury as part of a Blaise Hamlet type picturesque
scheme. Roughcast brick with black plinth. Steep thatched roof
with hip at N, half-hips at S and W, and gabled 2-storeys porch.
A large house of one and a half storeys facing E, with central
rear wing. Picturesque irregular front with 2 tall panelled
red brick square central chimneys, 3 eyebrow dormers with small
casement windows, a 2-storeys gabled porch with weatherboarded
upper floor and wide oak plank door with ornamental ironwork
and small shuttered central opening with wooden mullions. Thatched
projection to right of porch. 2-light casement windows generally.
Engraved stone plaque with Latin inscription on S end. (Pevsner
(1977) 73).
