GREAT GADDESDEN GADDESDEN ROW TL 01 SE (North side) 4/86 Corner Farm - - II
Farmhouse, now a private house. Mid C17, brick front on S and E mid C19, extended to N and renovated 1985. Red brick on high flint sill with timber framed cross-partitions, probable timber framed show-front replaced by red brick in C19 and E gable rebuilt. Steep old red tile roofs. A large rectangular house of 2-storeys and attics facing S with lower rear wing stepping down to N. 3-cells, internal chimney, former lobby-entry plan, with chimney a third from W end. 2 gabled dormers on roof slope. Irregular fenestration with 5 recessed sash windows to 1st floor and 2 French windows to ground floor. Interior has exposed posts, ovolo-moulded axial beams with bar-stops to ground and 1st floor, double-ovolo moulded fireplace lintel on ground floor on E side of stack, 4-centred brick arched fireplace on floor over, 4-centred arched stone moulded fireplace to W side on 1st floor with double ogee moulding and moulded stops high on the jambs. 4-bays, wide-span, butt-purlin roof. Single purlin to each slope supported by straight wind-braces, and with rafters butt jointed to opposed faces of purlin. Numbered joints. Closed framed partitions on each side of narrow chimney bay, slots in tie-beams for diagonal braces springing from former timber framed front wall. Present stair cuts through ovolo floor beam of 1st floor. Original stair probably to rear of chimney.
