House, now 2 houses. C16 or earlier, mid C16 chimney inserted, W-bay and rear stair tower early C17, altered and rear wing added C18. Exposed timber frame with red brick infill and steep old red tile roofs. Large former open-hall house of 2-storeys facing N with underbuilt side-jetty along roadside. 5 bays of structure with large internal chimney in middle, 1 1/2-storeys rear wing at E end and stair turret in the rear angle. 3 windows long front with bull-nosed joist end to support jetty. Rectangular, 1st floor, ovolo-moulded, transomed, 4-lights early C17 oriel window with lattice leaded lights and iron opening lights. C18 3-lights leaded casement below it, and plank door with hood for E part (No. 9/10). Blocked door in similar position to N part before catslide projection to right. W gabled end has C17 similar canted oriel on shaped brackets under a tiled pentice and tilehung gable triangle. Interior has deeply chamfered cross-beams, step-jowled posts, close-spaced studs, numbered joints, long curved braces, knee-brace next chimney on 1st floor, unjowled stout post at mid-bay, and clasped-purlin roof with collar-and-queen-strut trusses and curved wind-braces. Bread oven in bulge from main chimney with salt hollow below. Large extensions linked to No. 9/10 not of special interest.
