9/110 No 42 (The Old Needle Mill)
GV II
Needle mill, now house. Early C19; converted and restored mid-C20. Stuccoed brick on sandstone base; slate roof, hipped at south end with two rendered ridge stacks. Two storeys with moulded eaves cornice. Six bays articulated by a round-headed blind arcade with impost band; ground floor has five original multi-paned metal windows with cambered heads; six first floor original lunettes with radiating glazing bars inserted beneath round arches and above impost band; above four central bays is a pedimented gable containing a small circular louvred opening; main entrance in fourth bay from left has a moulded cambered canopy on fluted consoles and a 5-panelled round-headed C20 door. There are two similar lunettes in the south side wall. Interior: retains original ceiling beams. One of the smaller aid interestingly designed buildings in the region connected with the needle-making industry.
