Details

BARTESTREE CP A 438 (south-west side) SO 54 SE 2/3 South-east Lodge of former driveway to Longworth Hall GV II One of a pair of lodges flanking the former driveway to Longworth Hall (qv Lugwardine CP). C18 with C20 alterations and additions. Ashlar, hipped slate roof. Rectangular plan with later additions to rear. Classical style. Single storey, plinth, string course, dentilled eaves cornice and rusticated quoins, Gibbs surround to doorway with segmental pediment, pedimented surrounds to windows with glazing bar sashes. Interior retains door and window fittings. The lodges have been ascribed to the early C20 (Pevsner) but the interior fittings of the south-east lodge indicate an earlier origin although the crispness of the external details implies sub- sequent restoration. The lodges are shown on a C19 print, copies of which were in the possession of the owner of the south-east lodge at the time of the resurvey (April 1985). (BoE, p 243-4).
