SO 43 NW MADLEY CP - 4/58 Lower House (formerly listed as Lower Chilstone) 29.9.52 GV II

House. Possibly late C16 or C17, with early C19 and early C20 alterations. Timber-frame with brick and plaster infill, brick; pantile and tile roofs with brick stack. L-plan with arms to north-east and south-east. Two storeys. North-west elevation has one window; gable front to right has first floor 2-light mid-C20 casement, ground floor has early C20 casement, also of two lights, heavy corner posts with tripleangle struts in gable above cambered tie-beam, dividing the storeys is a heavy cambered beam, angle strut from cill to left corner post; attached to left is lower unfenestrated wing with three square panels from cill to wall-plate; entry is in left-side of main range behind subsidiary wing. Interior of the main wing has timber-framed cross-walls forming.three structural bays and chamfered ceiling beams. Underbuilt in brick right-along the southern side wall.
