YALDING LEES ROAD TQ 6949 (North side) (formerly known as High Street, East-West Arm) 7/159 Weeks of Goudhurst, Yalding Post Office, and attached ranges to north and west GV II
House, shop and workshop, now shops with domestic accommodation. C18 and early C19. House, facing Lees Road, chequered red and grey brick. Former workshop (?) adjoining to left (west), red and grey brick in Flemish bond, with parallel rear range of red brick. Shop to right painted brick facing Lees Road, weatherboarded to High Street. Post Office weatherboarded. to High Street. Slate roof to rear range of workshop, plain tile roof to rest. Built on a corner site. Workshop probably early C19. House late C18 or early C19. Shop of a similar period. Post Office, and its two parallel rear ranges (which effectively form two rear wings to house), probably early C19. House 2 storeys and attics, rest 2 storeys. Roof hipped to left end of workshop, half-hipped to shop to right (facing High Street). Post Office and its two parallel rear ranges have higher eaves and ridges than rest with two gables and one half-hip. Modillioned eaves cornice to Post Office. Central red and grey brick stack to house, set parallel to ridge. Gable end stack to Post Office, and stack between rear ranges. House has two hipped dormers with paned two-light casements, regular 2-window front of four-pane sashes in open boxes (with splayed rubbed brick voussoirs to ground-floor window), and central door of six fielded panels with flat corniced hood. Workshop has irregular fenestration of 2 four-pane sashes in open boxes and nothing to left end on first floor, three similar ground-floor sashes with segmental heads, and blocked carriage entrance to right end, adjoining house. Shop unfenestrated to Lees Road. High-Street return has one two-light window to gable end of shop and one single-light and one two-light window to Post Office. Half-glazed door to shop, and half-glazed double doors with flat hood, to Post Office. Interior: house has timber- framed rear wall of relatively light scantling, chamfered beams, moulded wooden first-floor mantelshelf, attic stairs behind stack, and clasped- purlin roof. Common-rafter roof over shop. Stairs within rear range have moulded cheeks and balusters.
