WELLAND CP - SO 83 NW 5/168 Welland Court 11.8.52 - II

House. Mid-C18 with earlier remains. Brick in Flemish bond with limestone dressings and tile roof. Facade is a symmetrical composition of two storeys and five bays. The middle bay is pedimented and emphasised by quoins. Windows have gauged brick heads. On the ground floor they are sashed with glazing bars. On the first floor they are casements. In the centre on the first floor is a Venetian window with stone surround. The doorway is flanked by narrow windows and has an architrave and a pediment on brackets. Above the stone cornice is a brick parapet. Interior: not accessible at time of survey (June 1986), but entrance hall appears to be divided by screen of two Tuscan columns with pilaster responds. A sketch of the house by FWB Charles, dated 1973, suggests that a timber-framed house of c1600 was cased in brick c1700 and re-fronted c1750.
