Large house. Probable mid-C19 rebuilding and enlargement of C17 or earlier
structure, altered and extended in mid-C20. Brick, some refacing and replacing
of timber-framed structure, tiled and slate roofs, brick stack to north
main ridge, also 2 external brick stacks to south side elevation and one to
west entrance elevation. Original plan of hall and cross-wings type; C19
rebuilding included the extension of the south cross-wing, and 2 storey bay
window to main east elevation. 2 & 3 storeys, attic and cellar, dentilled
eaves cornice to main range; north cross-wing is single storey and attic.
East elevation: main part has a large C20 ground floor casement and 8-pane
sash, 2 first floor glazing bar sashes, above which are two 6-pane sashes
which light the attic space beneath the raised roof. The canted bay to right
has a flat roof and parapet, a ground floor 6-pane sash with cambered head
and a first floor glazing bar sash. Left cross-wing gable end has plain
bargeboard, ground floor multi-paned double doors, first floor 16-pane sash
and a 6-pane sash in attic; all openings have cambered heads. The right
cross-wing gable end is rendered, has pierced, scalloped bargeboards and a
ground floor and attic casement. Interior: Some stop chamfered beams visible,
also some square panelled timber-framing in north cross-wing. C20 extensions
to west elevation infilling angle with south cross-wing extension.
