SO 76 SE GREAT WITLEY CP WITLEY PARK 6/85 Curved linking wing, pavilion and Orangery and including five-arched arcade to rear of link - south-west of Witley Court -
GV II*
Curved link, possibly formerly nursery wing, five-arched arcade to rear, pavilion and connecting Orangery. Now ruined. c1860 by S Daukes for Lord Ward, later first Earl of Dudley. Bathstone ashlar. Curved link extends to south-west of house terminating with pavilion and connects with rectangular plan Orangery further west. The arcade is now an isolated structure aligned east/west toward the centre and rear of the link wall. Curved linking wing: 2 storeys and base- ment; rusticated plinth, string course, modillion cornice with balustraded parapet; 7 bays, cambered heads with keystones to basement windows, eared and shouldered architraves to first storey, aproned semi-circular headed arched windows with cornices and decorative spandrels to'top storey. Plain five-arched arcade to rear; pavilion: 2 storeys with moulded plinth and cornice and balustraded parapet; 2 giant pilasters of composite order flanking single bay, window similar to top storey of wing, composite portico in antis below. Orangery: 5:3:5 bays, rusticated plinth, dentilled cornice with egg and dart, water-leaf and bead and reel enrichments, arcades on composite columns with balustrade aprons and decorative spandrels. Central 3 bays forming portico with slight forward break, quadrant steps up.
