Details
NORTON CANON CP - SO 34 NE 4/88 Ye Olde Farmhouse
- II Farmhouse. Probably C17 with later alterations. Timber-frame with plaster and brick infill, shingled roof with sandstone rubble end stack and brick shaft. Gable access three-bay plan aligned north-north-west/ south-south-east. One storey and attic. West elevation has two windows, late C20 casements of two lights in raking-top dormers. Ground floor has two similar casements to left and a 3-light contemporary casement to the right-hand side. Right-hand gable has mid-C20 porch in front of extruded end stack. Left-hand gable to the road has central glazed C20 door. Frame has irregular panels, three high from cill to moulded fascia of wall-plate. Gable to road has regular panels. Angle struts from wall and corner-posts to wall-plate. Interior has two oak doors, probably C18, each with three fielded panels. Ceiling beams have straight-cut chamfer stops. Triangular-headed blocked doorway in ground floor cross wall. Eight splat balusters and two half-balusters farm balustrade at top of stairs. (RCHM, Vol III, p 154).
