MIDDLETON ON THE HILL CP SO 56 SW 7/53 Dovecote, granary and adjoining barn approximately 11.6.59 30 m north-east of Moor Abbey GV II Dovecote adjoining granary and adjoining barn. C17 dovecote and granary with the granary comprising features of an earlier building, C18 adjoining barn. Sandstone rubble with tiled roofs to dovecote and granary and corrugated metal to the barn. Square two-storey dovecote gabled to all sides with granary adjoining to south-west and seven-bay barn adjoining to north-east. Single storey and attic to granary with gabled dormer retaining decorative struts of an earlier date, 2-light casement window, steps up to attic floor to south-west gable end; ground floor: square-headed opening to left of ledged doorway and further square-headed opening to right. Dovecote has small square-headed light to gable with enlarged square-headed double doorway to ground floor. The interior retains some nesting boxes. Barn to right has one gabled dormer with opening and three square-headed doorways with ledged doors flanked by loop vents and two rows of triangular vents above, threshing floor entrance to right flanked by five rows of similar triangular headed vents. Inclined strut trusses.
