Details

WINFORTON CP off A 438 (south side) SO 34 NW 6/119 Court Barn Cottage - II House. Circa 1700, restored late C20. Timber-framed with rendered infill on rubble base with some brick walling and slate roof. Two framed bays aligned roughly east/west and external rubble chimneys with brick stacks at gable ends; west end chimney also has a circular bread oven. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: three panels from sill to wall- plate, short straight upper corner braces and collar and tie-beam trusses with struts. Windows are all C20 casements. South front elevation: there are three 2-light windows on the ground floor with plank weatherings (two are set beneath a continuous weathering), a 2-light stair window at eaves level and two gabled dormers with 2-light windows. To the right of centre is a C20 gabled timber porch and partly-glazed door. Attic lights in gable ends. Present main entrance at west gable end to rear of chimney, and has a C20 lean-to timber and brick porch and C20 stable door within. Also single-bay brick wing at rear. (RCHM, III, p 214, item 10).
