6/13 Gatehouse attached to west end of 11.6.59 The Grange

GV I

Gatehouse. C14 and C17 with later alterations. Roughly squared sandstone, sandstone dressings, timber-frame with plaster and brick infill and weather- boarding. Tiled roof. Rectangular plan aligned east/west. Two storeys. South elevation has one opening to right-hand side of upper floor in a row of square framed brick filled panels. Full-height entry to left of centre. To the left of this entry is a restored cross-casement under a cambered head. To the extreme right is a 2-light casement to the left of which is a ledged C20 door and a two-leaved door. Attached to left is a lower extension; probably mid-C19 with a ledged door and 2-light transom light under cambered head. North elevation has C14 chamfered two-centred arch and jettied upper floor with exposed framing supported on curved brackets resting on cill beam on moulded corbels. Interior not inspected.
