Details
KINNERSLEY CP NEWTON SO 34 NW 3/65 Upper Newton Farmhouse 20.2.53 GV II Farmhouse. Probably late C16 to early C17 with later alterations. Timber- frame with plaster infill, partly finished in roughcast and with brick and sandstone rubble extensions. Welsh slate and tile roofs with sandstone rubble and brick stacks. T-plan with cross-wing at north end. Two storeys and attic. East elevation has 2:1 windows, early C20 casements with gable front to right- hand side. Gable has exposed timber-framing supported on moulded bressummer with curved brackets. Corner posts have vertical mouldings running out in tassel-like motifs. Entry to left of gable in glazed early C20 gabled porch. Sandstone rubble lean-to to right-hand side, probably C18 connects to timber- framed outbuilding probably formerly a granary. West elevation has early C20 brick porch and two entries. South elevation has two roughcast gables with early C20 windows. Canted bay window to first floor of right-hand gable. Interior has stone flagged floor, heavy moulded ceiling beams forming panels and large raking-strut trusses. Ledged C17 door in attic. (RCHM, Vol III, p 100).
