Details
ALMELEY CP - SO 35 SW 1/7 Castle Frome 20.2.53 GV II
Farmhouse. Possibly C14 or C15 with C17 and later alterations. Sandstone rubble plinth, timber-frame with brick infill, weatherboards and roughcast sandstone rubble gable. Sandstone slate and corrugated iron roof. Sandstone rubble stacks with brick shafts. L-plan with main range aligned east/west and wing projecting northwards at west end. One storey and attic. South elevation has exposed timber-framed gable front to left. Stone stack with brick shaft partly masks scissor struts in gable top. To the left of the stack are two square early C20 windows and to the right one 2-light late C20 casement. To the right of the gable is ledged door into main range which has roof half-hipped to the right. West elevation is roughcast and has two gabled dormers. North elevation has two timber-framed gables in projecting front to right. Frame is south side of projecting wing has three panels of thin scant- ling to first floor. Interior of eastern weatherboarded part of main range is a barn, formerly perhaps a hall, with three pairs of cruck blades, all with collars and spurs and one with arch-braces to its collar.
