Details
ASHTON UNDER HILL CP BECKFORD ROAD (west side) SO 9837 - 9937 11/5 22/6 Walnut Thatch 30-7-59 GV II
House. C16, altered C17, restored mid-C20. Timber-framed with rendered infill on limestone rubble base; thatched roof, half-hipped at south end. Limestone rubble chimney with two brick stacks to front of ridge and brick stack at southern end of ridge. Four framed bays aligned north/south with large chimney situated immediately north of southernmost bay. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: mainly two or three panels from sill to wall-plate, short straight braces in some upper corners, collar and tie-beam truss visible at north end with two collars, four main struts to lower collar and rendered above lower collar with framing painted in. East front elevation: windows are all C20 leaded casements and of an irregular arrangement with two 3-light and three 2-light windows and also a rectangular light on the ground floor. Above are three eyebrow dormers, one has a blocked window, one has a 2-light window, and one is very wide and has three 2-light windows (two of which are paired). The main entrance is probably in its original situation to right of centre and has a thatched hipped-roofed porch on timber posts and a C20 door. Attic lights in gable ends. Interior: central former hall has large fireplace and cross-beamed ceiling. C20 lean-to additions at rear.
