Farmhouse. Early C17 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Part timber-framed with brick and rendered infill, brick and rubble replacement walling; part rubble; plain tiled roofs. H-plan; central hall part of two framed bays aligned north/south with large central rubble chimney and brick ridge stack; cross-wing of two framed bays at north gable end also with rubble chimney and brick stack at rear gable end and north side; large C19 rubble cross-wing of three bays added at south gable end with east gable end chimney and brick stack. Two storeys partly with attic. Framing: two rows of panels at first floor level to side and rear of cross-wing and collar and tie-beam truss with two struts at rear gable end; framing also exposed to front of rear of hall but has been altered and is mainly irregular. Windows are mainly C20 casements. East front elevation: hall has a 4-light first floor window; ground.floor is obscured by two adjoining lean-to additions; the left one has a 3-light window and the right one a 2-light C19 window and it is extended to form a lean-to porch above the main entrance which has a C20 glazed door. Cross-wing gable end to right has a ground floor 3-light window with a cambered head and a first floor 2-light window. Left cross-wing gable end has a C20 door to right of the chimney and an attic light; its south elevation has two ground and first floor 3-light windows in the outer bays and a central first floor 2-light window; all have cambered heads and mouldedstone keyblocks. Interior: roof of hall appears to have been raised; internal framing otherwise largely intact; large fireplace with C19 range in cross-wing; hall is floored with flagstones. (VCH 4, p 266).
