2/10 Garden Cottage

GV II

House. Early C17 with mid-C19 alterations; restored mid-C20. Timber- framed with painted brick infill, rubble plinth, painted brick and rubble replacement walling, fishscale tiled roof. Two framed bays aligned east/ west, large central rubble chimney with rebuilt brick stack to north side of ridge. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: north elevation has four panels from sill to wall-plate and large straight lower corner braces; tie-beam truss visible at west gable end. South front elevation: ground floor has two 2-light casements, one with a cambered head, two gabled dormers with 2-light casements; main entrance to right of centre has a C20 gabled timber porch with brick and glazed infill at sides and a C19 ledged and battened door. Interior: roof structure survives, also west end wall-frame; central chimney has back-to-back fireplaces. Floor of east bay probably inserted. C20 additional bay at east gable end has double glazed doors and gabled dormer to south front elevation; also C20 single-storey addition at west gable end.
