4/103 Newnham Mill
GV II
Corn mill. c1700, altered early to mid-C19, restored late C20. Brick with shallow-pitched Welsh slate roof. Three levels with dentilled eaves cornice. Two bays; windows are all C20 and mainly 2-light casements with cambered heads. Gable ends have a window to each upper level and a door to the lower level; south-east gable end has two additional windows to the right where the machinery is housed. Main entrance in south-west side elevation. Interior: roof was raised during early to mid-C19 and has collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. The machinery is complete and in full working order. The cast iron undershot wheel on the north-east side drives three pairs of French burr millstones. The original wooden wheel was replaced by a cast iron one in March 1837; this new wheel and the gearing mechanism were cast by Turtons of Kidderminster.
