HIMBLETON CP HIMBLETON SO 95 NW Barn and stables 6/160 about 10 yards north of Court Farmhouse GV II

Barn and stables. Late C16 with late C19 alterations and additions. Timber- framed on lias limestone rubble base; some brick infill, replacement walling and additions, incorporating some handmade brick; part weatherboarded with plain tiled roofs. Originally an L-plan of three framed bays aligned east/ west with a two-bay cross-wing at the east gable end; this wing was extended by three bays, the adjoining bay of which is a wagon bay with opposed cart entries and double doors. Mainly two levels. Framing: little visible externally. East elevation: 2-light casement, a stable door and blocked ventilation slits on later part at other side of wagon bay. South elevation has a stable door to each bay and an attic light in cross-wing to right. Interior: original part has four panels from sill to wall-plate and short straight upper corner braces; roof has arch-braced collar and tie-beam trusses with two collars and mainly four struts to lower collar and two to upper collar; two tiers of purlins and swept wind-braces; part of the upper level is plastered and was probably a granary. The brick addition has collar and tie-beam intermediate trusses with two struts to the collar. A small lean- to extension adjoins the south elevation.
