Canal road bridge. cl77I by James Brindley. Red brick in English bond with part-dressed splayed sandstone rubble parapet. High round-arched bridge, about 18 yards long and with cambered abutments; beneath arch there are 12 high level scaffold bearers with hardwood padstones still retained on either side. A bridge number plate (7) is attached to the north side of the bridge. The towpath passes beneath the bridge on the east side and is edged with large blue bullnosed bricks. The Droitwich barge canal is a broad gauge canal linking Droitwich with the River Severn. James Brindley acted as the consultant engineer throughout its construction and it was completed in 1771. It was built to provide a reliable transport system for the salt industry and was worked by specially developed "wich" barges.
