SU 43 NE WONSTON STOKE CHARITY
4/31 The Rectory II
Rectory now private residence. Circa 1495, C17 & mid C19. Timberframe with wattle and daub infill encased in brick with brick additions, old plain tile roof. 2-bay open hall C15 building with hall to left of doorway to screens passage and smaller service bay to right. To left end Cl7 crosswing added. In mid C19 existing building encased in brick, parallel wing added to C17 wing, and one bay tall gabled double pile range and Dutch gabled porch added to rear and late C19 wing added to front at left end. Front 2 storey, 5 bay. At left tall 2 gable projecting wing with C19 diaper brickwork and windows. Centre 2 bays C15 building with C19 projecting gable bay to left bay with C19 windows. Other bay has original doorway with C19 replica door in original frame with, to left, small 2-light casement, brick hood moulding over bath, and another casement at eaves level. Right hand projecting wing has wall window and ridge stack. Inside exposed timberframing of external and internal walls, remains of arched brace roof with C17 partitions and in room in ground floor of hall early C18 panelling with oak leaf motif cornice given by a Mayor of London.
