ROCKBOUHNE MANOR FARM SU 1118 14/29 Large Barn 50m NE of Manor House 30.9.64 (Formerly listed as Barn GV at Manor north of former Chapel) I

Large barn, possibly tithe. C15 altered C17 and C19. Rubble stone and flint, once rendered, stone dressings, brick repairs, old plain tile roof. 9 bay barn, with on one side 2 large hipped midstrey porches, one end appears to have been 2 storeys, possibly domestic. Side facing rest of complex has porches in 4th bay from LH end and 3rd bay from RH end. Slate lean-to between porches. Porches have large double doors, that to IH has weatherboarding with dovecote over doors. Corner buttresses and from LH corner 10m wall rendered tile coping. LH end of barn has windows on 2 levels. Large high set trefoiled head window in gable. On far side remains of stone mullion windows and door. Roof half-hipped. Inside arched brace roof, quite plain with unmoulded collars and to sets of purlins. Scheduled Ancient Monument. VCH; vol IV; p581-2. Archeological Journal; vol CV; supplement.
