COPYTHORNE PAULTON'S PARK SU 31 NW 2/12 Sawmill north of Paulton House
GV II
A water-powered mill located beside the Cadnam River, below the U-shaped lake, formed to supply the hydraulic power. Mid C19. A plain rectangular structure with brick walls on three sides, associated with a deep brick-lined channel which contains the water wheel. Slate roof. The wheel has a cast-iron frame and iron scoops, the axle passing into the building, which support the eaves. Inside there is a series of wood-working machines, driven from the water wheel through a set of shafts. The mill is in working order, and also serves as an exhibition in a country park.
