EARL STONHAM MIDDLEWOOD GREEN TM 06 SE 1/114 Whitehouse Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse, mid C16 with alterations of C17 and mid C20. 2 storeys. 3-cell cross-passage entrance plan. Timber framed and plastered. Concrete tiled roof (thatched until C20), with C20 axial chimney of red brick. C20 casements at ground storey, and C19 casements above. C20 panelled entrance door and open gabled porch on posts. Good close studwork with arch wind-bracing; coupled-rafter roof. An open fireplace with lintel in parlour to left. There is evidence for twin service room doorways; a part of the moulded head of a plank-and-muntin cross-passage screen is reused in a partition. The parlour was extended to left by one bay in C17. A detached range containing bakehouse, dairy and kitchen, probably of C16, stood corner to corner with the service end of the house until mid C20.
