WINGFIELD TM 27 NW 5/144 Abbey Farmhouse - 29.7.55 -- II
Farmhouse. Late C16/early C17 core and stacks, much altered and rebuilt mid C19. Timber framed core, encased in mid C19 white brick, now colourwashed. Plaintiled roof with crest tiles. 2 storeys. Symmetrical facade: diagonal brick buttresses at angles; central entrance section set forward and gabled, with wide eaves. 3 windows, stone casements in Gothick style with cinqufoil headed lights and square hood moulds. . 2-centre arched doorway; old plank door with studded battens. Over the central first floor window the de la Pole arms. 2 good stacks: that to the right gable end has 2 circular shafts with moulded brick enrichment and star caps; that to the rear has 3 similar shafts. C19 interior with ceilings raised. At the top of the stairs a section of C17 oak panelling. Remains of moat adjacent.
