Details

KENTON CHURCH LANE TM 16 NE 1/134 May Cottage - - II

Former farmhouse. Early C17 with C20 gabled addition set forward to left. Renovated 1978. Timber framed, smooth render, roof of interlocking concrete pantiles. 2-cell form. 2 storeys. Mid C20 standard small-paned casement windows. 2 original first floor diamond-mullioned windows, in right gable end and at rear; another visible inside. Entrance door in side wall of C20 addition. Internal stack with rendered shaft. Small probably C19 rear lean- to. Interior. The frame is in 3 unequal bays, much of it exposed. Cranked corner braces. Front upper window to left has deeper sill and probably projected. Heavy square joists in ceiling of left cell. Joists in larger right cell concealed. The newel stair is largely original. Roof has one row of clasped purlins and deep collars; no wind-bracing was apparent.
