BENACRE TM 58 NW 3/2 Walnut Tree Inn Farmhouse - - II
Farmhouse, at one time a coaching inn. Early C17 with later alterations. Probably originally timber framed, now red brick with a brick dentil eaves cornice. To the right there is early C18 brickwork with dark headers and a band at first floor level; to the left the brickwork is late C18/early C19, with the original lobby entrance bay set slightly forward. Plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell form. 4 windows, 2-light and 3-light mullion and transom casements under segmental arches. To the right is a good mid C18 doorcase with slightly engaged fluted columns, a panel for a rectangular fanlight and a modillion-corniced hood. Mid C20 door. In the position of the former lobby entrance is a mid C20 window. Internal stack and later external stack to the right hand gable end. The parlour and the room above have ovolo- moulded floor beams; some exposed joisting. The C18 serving hatch of the inn is still in position, with the original doors. A fire destroyed the roof over the right hand end of the house in the early C20.
