Details
ILKETSHALL ST. ANDREW CLARKE'S LANE TM 38 NE 2/7 Barn to the north of - Orchard Farmhouse GV II Barn. Early C18. In red brick, laid in English Bond; double Roman tiles. The gable walls above tie-beam level are timber-framed and weatherboarded. Square ventilation openings on the long and end walls. 3 bays, with the entry into the middle bay; a contemporary porch on the north side. Inside, the bay divisions are marked by straight, unbraced tie-beams. The roof is in 7 bays arranged 3:1:3, with the central bay much wider than the rest. 2 rows of stepped butt purlins; straight windbraces in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th bays inclined inwards to the middle bay; large, deep principal rafters, common rafters set flat, and a deep, narrow ridge-piece. The barn is set sideways-on to the road.
