Details

GODALMING BRIGHTON ROAD SU 9742 (south west side), Busbridge 16/38 North gateway and over- throw to Church of St John the Baptist GV II

0Gateway with gate and overthrow. Probably c.1867 as Church (q.v.). Wooden gate and posts; wrought-iron overthrow. Gate posts: square on plan; leaded, gabled tops with triangular and cusped decoration, lead capping from west post removed. Single-leaf, wide, gate: of 2 panels, the lower one with cusped-headed panels (1 head removed), the upper one with cross; decorative iron straps; chamfered internal edges; top rail has worn triangular moulding. Overthrow: simple iron arch, the bar twisted at base, from which is hung central lantern. Matches south gateway (q.v.).
