Details
ROTHERFIELD TREBLERS ROAD TQ 52 NW (east side, off) 20/257E Jarvis Brook, flight of steps with retaining wall, pool and statue approx 110 metres east of Rotherfield Hall GV II Garden feature. Probably 1897 by Francis Inigo Thomas for Lindsay Lindsay- Hogg. Rubblestone brought to course and ashlar; statue probably of composite stone. Double flight of steps turning to meet at centre and rise a short way as a single flight. Retaining wall has square-sectioned piers flat coping and central balustrade; an arched opening below each upper-flight of steps and at centre a keyed round-arched niche with impost band and statue of Greek woman carrying jug in front of the retaining wall is a shallow pool, the front retain- ing wall having a central bow. Part of the garden setting for Rotherfield Hall (qv) the garden being listed Grade II* in the Register of historic Parks and Gardens of Special Interest.
