ST JOHN'S STREET 1. 972 (East Side) Gate piers before Church of St John the Evangelist SU 8604 NW 4/191A II 2. 6 gate piers, with low curtain walls connecting 4 of these, flank side and main entrances to Church. 2 piers (1 of each at either end) of a height of 6½ feet; the other 4 about 5 feet high. Cement rendered. Piers with grooved dies on low plinths; square caps to each pier, pediment-shaped on each side, with a small grooved circle in every tympanum (until second World War, iron railings and pairs of double gates as well).
