Details

LOWER ROAD 1. 1594 (South Side) BEMERTON No 64 SU 1230 8/502 II 2. Dated 1848. 2 storey villa built of cob with rendered facing, rusticated quoins. Steep pitch hipped slate roof with deep flat eaves. South garden front has 2 windows both floors, marginal glazed recessed sashes. Later red brick 2 storey extension to west. Entrance front at east end. One marginal glazed sash window on lst floor. Central door of 6 panels in panelled reveal. 2 pane marginal glazed fanlight. Surround of stucco pilasters, frieze and projecting cornice. Small 2 light marginal glazed casement to right. North elevation has 2 windows as on garden front and later small sash to centre of 1st floor. A relief of a woman on horseback (Amazon?) with the date 1848 is set at the foot of the former western outside wall now enclosed by later brick extension. The house is unusual in being built of cob at this date. See No 76 for former outhouse.
