Details

ASHTON IN MAKERFIELD LIVERPOOL ROAD SJ 59 NE (north side) 11/4 Home Farmhouse 7.12.66 - II House. c.1692 with C19 alterations. Roughcast brick with slate roof, brick exposed to rear. 2 storeys, 3 bays, with one-storey C20 extension to returns. 1st floor sill band. Windows are segmental headed, the jambs and soffits chamfered with stops; sashed with single glazing bars. Ground floor has canted bay windows with hipped roofs. Entrance has timber porch with decorative open framing and hipped roof; entrance has elliptical head, and 6-panel door. Brick gable-end stacks. Rear has segmental-headed windows with 3-light casements. Interior has chamfered beams and bressumer to fireplace with later brick fireplace inside. Staircase has close string, square newels and column-on-vase balusters. Doors have fielded panels (the central ones small) and H-L hinges. House has exterior vertical shoring and horizontal tie rods (mining subsidence).
