Details

SADDLEWORTH KNOWL TOP LANE SE 00 NW (east side) 4/187 Barn at Rye Top - G.V. II Barn and cottage. Early/mid C18 and early C19. Hammer- dressed watershot stone with graduated stone slate roof. Total of 3 bays and 2 storeys with barn to left. The barn has a segmental keystone arch over the cart entry with small 1-light windows at 2 levels on each side. Quoins. The cottage (early or mid C18) has 4 and 6-light recessed cavetto-moulded windows each with king mullions. The right gable has a blocked doorway, 1 and 2-light windows (as above) and a gable chimney stack. 4-light flat-faced stone mullion window to rear of house and winnowing door to rear of barn.
