Details

SADDLEWORTH THE SHAWS SE 00 NW 4/316 Nos. 2, 3 and - 4 G.V. II 2 houses, now 3 houses. Late C18. Hammer-dressed watershot stone with graduated stone slate roof. Single and double- depth range with a total of 3 bays and 3 storeys. Bay 1 (No. 4) predates the others and is double-depth: it has quoins and a door to right with dressed surround. 5-light ground floor window, 7-light first floor window and 7-light window to second floor which was added after the building of bays 2 and 3. All windows have recessed flat-faced stone mullions. Square-cut door surround in bay 3 and door inserted to bay 2 when it was converted to a separate house. 4 and 5-light windows (as above) to bay 2, two 3-light flat- faced windows to bay 3 and a 14-light workshop window to the top floor which again appears to be later than the lower floors. 2 ridge chimney stacks. Rear has 3-light double- chamfered cavetto-moulded mullion window of an earlier date as well as various 4, 6 and 14-light windows. Two blocked taking-in doors.
