LONG WHATTON HATHERN ROAD SK 42 SE (Shepshed) 5/184 Oakley Wood Cottage - II
House, formerly a keeper's cottage for the Garendon Estate. C18 and early C19 with some C20 alterations. Brick on granite rubble plinth. Thatched roof, square brick chimney between left bays, another smaller brick chimney between right bays. U-plan, the left rear wing added or rebuilt C19, with left wall rebuilt again C20. 1 1/2 storeys; 3 bays. C19 barred wooden windows, mostly 3-light but with 2-light to ground floor of centre bay. Upper windows are semi- dormers in thatch eyebrows. Window in left bay and to first floor right are horizontal sashes, others are casements. Central ground floor window has segmental head and C20 single light adjacent to left. C20 glazed door between left bays has C20 thatched porch. Outshot to rear of right bay. C20 verandah to rear centre. Interior has some re-used old beams. Picturesque.
