Details
TQ 2981 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GREEK STREET, WI 58/56 24.2.58 No. 50 GV II Terrace house. c.1736. Stained brick, stuccoed ground floor, slate roof. 3 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide, though not as spacious as No 48 (qv). Entrance to left with mid C20 door recessed in original panelled reveal and doorcase of fluted Doric pilasters and entablature with triglyph frieze but missing its cornice. Recessed metal casements, with flat gauged arches to upper floors except for central 1st floor window which has semicircular head with stone imposts and key block. Plat band over ground floor and rendered, probably brick, cornice below parapet with coping. Flanking steps up to door is a section of original area railings with large urn finials. Interior : closet wing and rooms and stair compartment on the ground and 1st floors lined with boldly moulded panelling with dentil box cornices etc. Doric columns flank ground floor front room recess and fluted Doric pilasters in passage - hall; dog leg stairs with carved cut strings, turned balusters and column newels but with usual closed string from 1st floor landing etc. Survey of London; Vol. XXXIII.
