TQ 2880 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GROSVENOR SQUARE, 68/19 W. 1 Nos. 22 and 23 (Including No. 43 North Audley Street) G.V. II Town mansion with main elevation to North Audley Street. 1906-07 by Read and Macdonald. Portland stone, slate roof. Free Classicism with English Baroque and French mid C.18 details. 3 storeys, basement and full attic storey above entablature with dormered mansard above. 9 windows wide with slight asymmetry of extra bay to north, read as a tripartite composition. Banded rustication to ground floor, the entrance in central 2 storey slightly advanced bay with keystone lintelled portal flanked by short screen walls terminating in panelled piers with urn finials; bay window above flanked by pairs of Ionic columns. 2 storey canted bays flanking,with prominent keystones to ground floor lights and 1st floors, articulated by Ionic columns carrying entablatures and parapets; intervening bays with pedimented cross-mullion windows. Shallow architraves to 2nd and attic floor windows. Recessed wing with similar details has canted end to corner of square with Ionic columned 1st floor corner window. 2-storey and basement 4-window wing to north with balustraded parapet. Interior altered but retains some ceilings and elements of original decoration on 1st floor. Survey of London; Vol. XL.
