Details
TQ 2881 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER WIGMORE STREET, W1 55/39 Nos. 76 to and 78 II Chambers or flats with corner shop. 1906-07 (refurbished and shop fronts renewed 1984-85) by Treadwell and Martin. Red brick with stone dressings; slate roofs. Free Style "Jacobethan" with strong vertical emphasis and taut imaginative detailing to corner, typical of this practice. 5 storeys including gabled attics. 3 windows wide, broad canted bay and splay to corner with Jason Court and 4 bay return. Shop front renewed plain with capped bracket ends to fascia carried over corner entrance. Above shop front a canted stone bay rises through 1st and 2nd floors, with mullioned-transomed leaded casements, finished off with plain parapet; lunette above to 3rd floor. The bay is inset between flanking piers, banded at 3rd floor level, rising to ornamentation at parapet level with 5 light leaded casement between. The shaped gable above has lozenge patterning in tympanum. To left are mullioned transomed casements, with linked hood moulds on 1st floor. The corner splay is capped by small, slated, conical roofed oriel on 4th floor with enriched panels below it. Shaped gable to Jason Court return which has similar but plainer details.
