Details

TQ 2881 NE and NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER WIMPOLE STREET W1 44/25 ;45/ 50 (West side) Nos 44 and 45 GV II Terraced town houses. 1770s Portland estate development with mid C19 alterations and c.1900 wing to Weymouth Street return of No 44. Stock brick with stucco dressings and channelled stucco ground floor. 4 storeys (No 45 with dormered mansard) on basements. 3-window wide astylar fronts. Semicircular arched doorways adjoining, to left and right, with plain imposts, rustic voussoirs and masked Coade keystones; panelled doors, side lights and fanlights in plain Venetian composition. Recessed sashes (French windows to 1st floor of No 44) in stucco architraves to upper floors, those on 1st and 2nd floors of No 44 eared, and with consoled cornices on 1st floor; attic floor of No 44 without architraves. The return of No 44 has stucco channelling carved onto single storey c1900 wing with 3 bay loggia articulated by Baroque tapered antae with festooned capitals. Plat band over ground floor and 1st floor sill course to No 45. Main cornice over 2nd floor; attic parapet with coping. Victorian cast iron balcony to 1st floor of No 44. Plumbed spike finials to cast iron area railings. Interiors not inspected.
