TQ 3480 22/925 Group of Bollards on pavement edge in front of site of former Brunswick Theatre from north corner of Sailor's Home southwards to control doorway of D T I Merchant Marine Office. II
2. 1828. Bollards of cast iron with square base shading to octagonal top and low, pyramidal cap. Horizontally reeded all over. On each side monogram, "R.B.T" and crown over. The initials stand for the Royal Brunswick Theatre which was built in 1828 and adorned the site for only three days of working life before collapsing, with considerable loss of life, during a rehearsal. The bollards are the only visible remains of the theatre and are listed for historical association in addition to their intrinsic value.
