Details

CRANBROOK HIGH STREET TQ 7735 NW (south side) 11/156 - Webster House and railings to north GV II

House. Early C18 block with alterations and additions of 1875-76 by Richard Norman Shaw for Thomas Webster, RA, in front of C17 building. Red brick with orange dressings. Broken moulded brick cornice over ground floor and contin- uous bands over first floor and over second floor under brick-caped parapet. Roof concealed by parapet. Tall brick stack to rear. 3 storeys. Regular 5 bay front, with sashes without glazing bars in segment head surrounds on first and second floors. 2 canted C19 bays on ground floor flanking panelled door with fluted Doric pilaster surround carrying full Doric entablature with trig- lyphs and metopes containing paterae. Spearhead railings, four foot higher on red brick plinth around three sides of front enclosure with central gateway.
