BROOKMILL ROAD SE8 1. 4424 (West Side) Carrington House TQ 3776 8/92 II 2. 1903 by W E Riley, the LCC architect. Large hostel building of 6 storeys and attic, 23 bays. Slightly concave curve around angle of road. Red brick with some stone cladding and some cement rendering. At either end square towers have low pitched, pyramidal roofs with deep, mutuled eaves soffits. 3 narrow windows on each floor. At irregular intervals 3 bowed-out, stone-faced sections, the outer ones of 1 bay, the middle one of 2 bays, under gable, 4 and 6 light windows in these sections and doors on ground floor. The outer stone-faced sections have parapets curved up in centre. In main areas of building between these features, the 2 upper floors are rendered under deep cornice. Slated mansard roof above with square- headed dormers. 2-light sash windows in main areas.
