LONG WHATTON WHATTON HOUSE GROUNDS SK 42 SE 5/220 Pair of Buddhist Memorial Lamps in Chinese garden GV II
Pair of Buddhist memorial lamps, used as a garden ornament. Late C19. Of Chinese or Japanese origin. Bronze. Each lamp has a post composed of 4 stakes bound by ivy trails, supporting a square lantern with pyramid roof of imitation straw. Sides of lanterns have pierced metal grilles, each lantern with crescent moon to one side. East lamp has owl finial. Feature of Chinese garden laid out by the first Lord Crawshaw c189O-1900.
