LONG WHATTON WHATTON HOUSE GROUNDS SK 42 SE 5/208 Pair of Cranes in Chinese garden GV II

Ornamental garden sculpture. Dated 1900 on plaque. Pair of bronze cranes, late C19, of Chinese or Japanese origin, on a rough stone base. Stone panel behind is inscribed: "In memory of Adam and Eve, Two old Cranes buried 1900". One of a series of sculptures collected for the garden by the first Lord Crawshaw c1890-1.900. (Illustrated in Country Life, February 21st 1985, p.457).
