BLASTON SP 89 NW Gate Piers and Gates clOOm N of Church of 3/7 St. Giles

Gate piers and gates. Piers, late C18, gates C19. Rendered red brick and stone piers with wood and wrought iron gates. The 2 piers have moulded stone plinths and cornices and are surmounted by round tapering finials with flat tops and carved drops of flowers down them. Perhaps finials were originally pedestals for further stonework. Total height c3½m. Pair of wooden gates, the centres filled with wrought iron bars. Fleur-de-lys finials. These gates originally led to Blaston Hall, demolished earlier C20, and now lead to grounds of Stone House (q.v.).
