Details

STATION STREET 1. 5304 Gate piers and cast iron SK 5904 8/340 gate to former Midland Railway Station. II 2.Gatepiers and gate.1839. Only surviving features of the former Midland Railway Station by William Parsons in Greek Revival style. Station demolished in 1890 and rebuilt. Two stone piers and one cast iron gate. Each pier, of five slightly tapering ashlar blocks on a projecting single block base course, has a frieze and moulded classical cornice with a weathered capping block over. The sides of each pier are cut with a central vertical band which stops against a vertical console bracket below the frieze. A single leaf C.I. gate, with fleur de lys finials to the vertical bars, is hinged onto the west side of the west pier.
